Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onions, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper; mix until just combined.
- Form the mixture into patties and brown them in a hot skillet over medium-high heat.
- Transfer the browned patties to a baking dish.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced mushrooms until tender, then add beef broth and deglaze the pan.
- Pour the mushroom-broth mixture evenly over the patties in the baking dish.
- Spread mashed potatoes on top of the patties and mushrooms.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is heated through.
Notes
Allow the casserole to rest for 5–10 minutes after baking for better slicing.
