- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped chocolate (semi-sweet or dark)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, or walnuts)
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients and equipment, including a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir gently until mixed evenly.
- Increase the heat and continue cooking without stirring for 10-15 minutes until it reaches a bubbling stage.
- Using a candy thermometer, cook until it reaches 300°F or performs the cold water test for the hard crack stage.
- Pour the hot mixture into an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle chocolate on top of the hot toffee and spread it evenly with a spatula as it melts.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate and press down slightly.
- Let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up before breaking into pieces.
