Description
A warm and spiced apple butter made with fresh apples, perfect for spreading on toast or pancakes, evokes nostalgia of cozy autumn days.
Ingredients

- 6–8 pounds apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice the apples, then place them in the slow cooker.
- In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and water.
- Pour the mixture over the apples and stir gently to coat.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- After cooking, puree the mixture until smooth with an immersion blender.
- If desired, cook longer for a thicker consistency, then transfer to sterilized jars for storage.
Notes
Allow the apple butter to cool before sealing jars. It can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks or frozen for up to a year.
