Description

A quick and easy recipe for crispy honey garlic tofu, perfect for busy weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz Extra-Firm Tofu (pressed and cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 23 tbsp Avocado Oil (or other high-heat neutral oil)
  • Salt and Black Pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce (low-sodium if preferred)
  • 3 tbsp Honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch (mixed with 2 tsp water)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Whisk together soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a small saucepan. Set aside.
  4. Heat avocado oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu in a single layer and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Cook tofu in a single layer for 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway, until crispy.
  6. Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer. Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  7. Remove sauce from heat. Add the crispy tofu and gently toss to coat.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Pressing removes water so the tofu crisps. Cook in a single layer for even browning. For added texture, serve with crispy garlic smashed potatoes.
