Description

These small, soft heart-shaped sandwiches are perfect for tea time, baby showers, or simple snacks. Easy to prepare and customizable with various fillings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of bread (white or whole grain)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup smoked salmon or ham (optional)
  • Fresh dill or chives for garnish
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Keep the cream cheese soft for easy spreading; stir in a teaspoon of milk if it’s too thick.
  2. Cut the bread with a small heart cutter and trim crusts if desired.
  3. Layer thin cucumber slices on each piece to prevent sogginess.
  4. If using smoked salmon or ham, pat it dry first.
  5. Press the sandwiches lightly to hold their shape and chill briefly before serving.
  6. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on each slice of bread.
  7. Add cucumber and the optional smoked salmon or ham, then stack two slices and press edges slightly.
  8. Cut with a heart cutter and arrange on a plate.
  9. Serve on a flat plate or tiered tray, garnished with dill or chives.
  10. Store in an airtight container with a paper towel in the fridge for up to one day.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, skip the smoked salmon or ham and replace with thin tomato or roasted pepper. Keep the bread and fillings separate if preparing ahead.
