Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 large onions
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh herbs (such as thyme or parsley) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot. Add salt.
  2. Peel the onions and place them in the boiling water.
  3. Boil the onions for about 30-40 minutes, until tender.
  4. Remove the onions from the pot and let them cool slightly.
  5. In a separate pan, melt butter and add the boiled onions to sauté for a few minutes.
  6. Serve warm and garnish with fresh herbs.

Notes

You can add a bay leaf to the boiling water for extra aroma. Replace butter with olive oil for a lighter finish.
