Description
A warm and comforting grilled cheese sandwich layered with sweet pears, apples, and caramelized onions.
Ingredients

- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium pear, thinly sliced
- 1 medium apple, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
- Add balsamic vinegar to the onions and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, then remove from skillet.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
- On two slices of sourdough, layer half of the cheddar cheese, followed by caramelized onions, sliced apple, and pear. Top with remaining cheddar and place the other slices of bread on top.
- Grill the sandwich for 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden and cheese is melted.
- Remove the sandwiches, allow to cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
Notes
Serve with a side of tomato soup or a light salad for a complete meal.
