Description

A comforting and easy-to-make French toast casserole with a custard-like interior and crispy top, perfect for brunch.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche (or challah or French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to soak them.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the bread mixture.
  6. Let the casserole sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with maple syrup or fresh berries.

Notes

Allow the casserole to sit overnight in the fridge for a make-ahead option. Serve with additional toppings such as powdered sugar or whipped cream.
