- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat until the butter is melted.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for about a minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown it.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden shade.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
- Cook the sauce for 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with non-dairy milk and nutritional yeast for cheese.
